about

This work was originally written in 2006 for the Semaradana Gamelan orchestra of Gamelan Genta Kasturi . The title loosely translated means “east/west flower”, indicating it’s mixture of Balinese and Western elements. The music is structured formally along Balinese lines (TriAngga concept of Kawitan/Pengawak/Pengecet), but incorporates Western harmony and melodic flow. This version, expanded in 2008, enriches and expands the harmonic palette through the addition of soprano
saxophone and clarinet. Recording from newEar "EastWest" concert at All Souls Unitarian Church on April 26, 2008.
